This week during Digital Marketing This Week; we continue our Google Analytics series. We first talked about the audience and who your visitors are. In the second part, we tried to figure out where those visitors are coming from. In this latest episode, we are going to show you how to figure out what actions those visitors are taking.
Remember, Google Analytics can be very overwhelming. So I really encourage you to take this step-by-step. Pick one thing, take action, and implement what you learn… then go back and pick the next thing. Soon enough, you'll find yourself with some serious skills!
In this episode, you'll discover:
- What pages your visitors viewed
- What order these pages were viewed
- What pages need you attention
- How to find leaks in your funnel
We always recommend you watch the episode (since we have some live demonstrations there).
This Week's Episode:
For those who just want a brief summary of what we covered…
Let's start with the Behavior > OVERVIEW REPORT —
Overview
The overview is the snapshot of what these sections are where you can do segmentation, page view trackers and a summary of the data that includes pageviews, unique pageviews, bounce rates and the exit rate.
Next up is BEHAVIOR FLOW
Behavior Flow
This is what you call a flow report and it’s meant to give you an idea on how to people are using your site in a visual way. It will show you the path your audience as they go through your site. It's literally seeing just how visitors flow through your site.
For actual site pages, go to SITE CONTENT
Site Content
This section offers all the pages that your visitors have seen. The content drill down will actually show you the directories that they went through. And this is useful in terms of figuring out which of your pages are popular, which pages get spikes depending on your campaigns, where people enter and where people exit.
Now let’s talk about SITE SPEED
Site Speed
This one is pretty straightforward in terms of giving you an overview of how fast your pages load, specific to areas. The data will also show you if a particular page is taking ages to load, so you can fix it.
HINT: Google Analytics site speed report is a great start, but we also use Pingdom as a way to get more specific breakdowns of site speed.
Site Search
Site search will actually tell you what terms people are looking for on your site—so we highly recommend that you enable this section, allowing you to adjust your content accordingly to make it more effective.
Be sure to watch the entire webinar to get more detailed and in-depth instructions on how to navigate through and gain insight through these sections. We’ll give you live demonstrations that will make it easier for you to figure out Google Analytics (you'll find that video at the top of this post)
We've also placed the slides we used here as well.
