What’s up for Digital Marketing This Week? It’s all about getting started with social media.

We’re gonna go ahead and jump in with the show notes, but you want to check out the entire video for a more in-depth discussion…

This Week's Episode:

Today we’re going to talk about tools to help you gain leverage, tips on how to get started and I’m going to share a new 2015 strategy that we’re implementing.

Let’s start with–

Digital Marketing This Week 27_What is social media

Most will assume it’s Facebook, or maybe Twitter. And you’re right.

But really, it’s these two and SO MUCH MORE.

Digital Marketing This Week 27_What is social media2

Anywhere where there is a group of people gathering, is by definition, social.

Now here’s the thing, social media works as an advertising channel.

Digital Marketing This Week 27_Social Media_Advertising Channels

There’s no need to over-complicate things–for online marketers, social media will work effectively as a way to promote your business, brand or product.

Here’s how you can get started:

1. Start by picking your channel–there are hundreds of options out there and you have to choose depending on:

  • Where you market spends time
  • Where you spend your time

2. Study what others are doing

  • What are they sharing?
  • Where do they share it?
  • How do they share it?

3. Get started!

Simple enough right? Now, the key to this–

–is that your advertising MUST OFFER VALUE.

What I’m saying is:

Digital Marketing This Week 27_Your ad must improve the user experience

You may have noticed, Facebook has been shutting down accounts left and right because they want to protect the user experience. Remember that your users are not on Facebook to specifically look at your ad, so you have to present your ads in a way that is relevant to THEIR (Facebook's) users.

Here are some tools you can use:

Digital Marketing This Week 27_Tools you can use_Buffer

The one that I like the most and use the most is called BUFFER, which allows me to schedule my posts for Facebok and Twitter posts. It’s currently free, and in fact, I’m still using the free version but I am very close to paying for it given how useful it is for me.

Digital Marketing This Week 27_Tools you can use_Hootsuite

Another tool you can use is HOOTSUITE, it works similar to Buffer and allows you to schedule your posts on social media. Personally I think it’s great if you have a team member, like maybe a Virtual Assistant who can help you with the task. Or if you’re managing social media at a bigger scale.

If you check out the recording at the top of our post, I also share what our Facebook strategy is for 2015

Be sure to watch the entire video for more tips and an in-depth discussion on how you can use social media.

I’d love to hear all about how you’ve been using social media to promote your brand so be sure to leave a comment and tell us all about it.
